Congratulation to our 25 Peer Leaders who will be a part of a very special program being implemented next school year. Peer Group Connection- Middle School is a research-based program that supports and eases students’ transition into middle school. Peer Group Connection is centered on the themes of identity, community, and leadership. The purpose of PGC-MS is to equip eighth graders with leadership skills to help younger students make a successful transition into middle school.
Peer Group Connection is a year-long, leadership course for eighth graders only that meet daily. Through an application process, group interviews, teacher recommendations, and observations, 25 students were selected of 41 applicants. These eighth graders will become trained peer leaders and will meet three times a month with sixth graders. These meetings are designed to be outreach sessions to strengthen relationships among students. This program will enable students to reinforce essential life skills such as decision-making, time management, teamwork, and communication.
