The Piedmont FFA participated on June 18-19th, 2019 at the 91st North Carolina FFA State Convention held at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh, NC. Piedmont FFA participated in Tool Identification, Introduction to Horticulture and Nursery Landscape Career Development Events (CDE).
In addition to participation in competitive events, two students were recognized for their outstanding work within their Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) program. Zoey Thomas placed 1st in the state for her work within the Veterinary Science Placement field; while Reagan Ponder placed 1st in the state for Equine Science Placement. Both students will win a monetary award, as well as have their applications sent to National FFA for competition in October 2019. Zoey Thomas was also recognized for State Star. NC State Star awards are designed to recognize outstanding FFA members who have earned their State FFA Degree and excelled in their Supervised Agricultural Experience projects. These awards are given to members who have successfully completed at least three years of agricultural education instruction, earned at least $1,000 or worked in excess of 300 hours, and been actively involved in FFA activities on all levels. Zoey will also be receiving her American Degree in October, which only 1% of FFA members receive nationwide.
Piedmont’s FFA members of the Nursery Landscape Career Development Event (CDE) placed 3rd in the State. Team members include Reagan Ponder, Alli Perruquet, Chloe Little, and Lindsay Starnes. Rylie Ponder, current chapter president, also accepted the Superior Chapter award on behalf of the chapter, as being recognized at the top 25% of chapters within the state.
