Pride of Piedmont Celebrating 50th Anniversary

The Pride of Piedmont will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year as it begins competition performances.  Mr. Jim Hill started the Piedmont band program 50 years ago, and the Pride of Piedmont has remained a staple in the Unionville community.  Over the years, many families have had multiple generations participate and succeed with the band.  Many high school band programs get new directors every few years, however, at Piedmont, only four band teachers have served as the high school directors: Mr. Jim Hill, Dr. David Clarke, Ms. Geneva Barrett (Guerrero), and Mr. Jody Lukac.   Over the years, the band has won numerous awards and taken students to places all over the country.  The Pride of Piedmont previewed their 2019 show on Friday night during half-time of the football game and then participated in the Union County Preview held at Marvin Ridge High School.  During the Band’s 50th anniversary season, the marching band will be competing and performing at six different contests around North Carolina, and will also be performing in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom on April 14, 2020.
