A little bit about your family:  I have been married for 22 years to my high school sweetheart, David Ruby.  He is a Matthews Police Sergeant. I have two sons. Will is 20 years old and Haden is 16 years old and a sophomore at Porter Ridge High School.

Hobbies/Favorite things:  I love to watch Carolina Panther Football.  I love to take pictures. I love to read and relax by the pool or the beach!  I love to sell LuLaRoe as a side fashion business. And I LOVE to teach first grade!

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?  I wanted to be a teacher.

How long have you been teaching? How long at Poplin?  I have been teaching for 23 years. I have been at Poplin for 10 years, since it opened.

What is the funniest thing a student has said to you?  Wow!  First graders say the funniest things!  I can't remember all the funny things. I need to write them down.  I do remember a time when a student went to the bathroom in my classroom.  I continued teaching and in my teaching I asked a question. The student yelled the answer from inside the bathroom.  The whole class cracked up. We laughed so hard! At least the student was still listening to my teaching while in the bathroom.

What is the most memorable moment as a teacher?   I love creating relationships with students and families.  I love to continue those relationships through the years and watch the students grow and learn.  My most memorable moments are seeing my "kids" make honor roll in middle and high school and even go on to graduate from college. I've had first graders to graduate from Wingate and Wake Forest University!

What do you love about teaching at Poplin? I love the Poplin Community!  I love meeting new friends each year and continuing to see and care about my older students!  I love the Poplin families that volunteer and contribute so much to our students and staff! I love my first grade team supporting each other throughout the years as teammates and friends!
