Several of our 4th and 5th grade students recently participated in a trip to the Barrier Island at St. Christopher Conference Center in South Carolina. The students participated in learning opportunities that helped them to learn about the ecology of the barrier islands as they learned about the inner tidal plains and salt marshes. They also learned about the animals that live in this region. Another fun-filled learning event was when students discovered seining. Seining is when large nets are drug to catch such animal life as crabs, fish, and shrimp. Students spent these days learning from the naturalists. They even saw dolphins! All of the students were completely in agreement that the barrier island trip was an amazing experience.
