Anna Cassidy receives John H. Crowder Service Award
Porter Ridge High is pleased to announce that senior Anna Cassidy is the April 2019 recipient of the John H. Crowder Service Award. This distinguished award goes out to high school students who are making positive differences in the school. Each month a winner is chosen from a designated UCPS high school. The service award is in honor of late John H. Crowder who served on the Union County Board of Education for many years. Students eligible must be academically successful and must have a history of community service with more than one organization.
On Tuesday, April 2, 2019, the UCPS Board of Education named Cassidy recipient of this distinguished award. Cassidy has been a vital member of many organizations in the school and has had numerous leadership roles these last four years. Some of her significant leadership roles are President of HOSA and Mu Alpha Theta while also being the Secretary of the National Honor Society.
Cassidy has spent all four high school years volunteering regularly. With her focus on food insecurity, she volunteers during the week at both the Common Heart Food Pantry and Distribution Center. In the summers, she volunteers with the Carolina Cross Connection to support homeowners in a mountain community to repair and upgrade their homes. Each year on Memorial Day, Cassidy and her family honor veterans by laying flowers on their graves.
The Porter Ridge cluster would like to congratulate senior Anna Cassidy for earning this distinguished honor and her contributions to both the community and school.
