New Assistant Band Director joins the Band of Pirates

Foray performs with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. The Porter Ridge Band of Pirates gained a new assistant director over the summer, Patrick Foray. This is not Foray’s first time at PRHS as he was a student-teacher at PRHS and PRMS back in 2018. Foray’s experience marching with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps has allowed him to help students develop strong marching technique, especially since many of the students have never marched before. The positive impact Foray has had on the band so far is evident and his commitment to helping students has encouraged the program to flourish as the band puts their first marching show on the field since 2019.

Foray has been interested in music education for a long time, stating that he knew he wanted to be a band director when he was a junior in high school. He was working with another student when, “I saw it click for them and I thought to myself: I can get used to this!”

Foray conducting student bandForay’s love for teaching shows through his dedication to his students. When asked what his favorite part of working with the Band of Pirates has been, Foray answered, “The students are an absolute joy to teach and I look forward to working with them every single day.” It is clear that Foray is devoted not only to the success of the program but to the success of every single student in the band.

Foray’s hobbies outside of school include, “Going to the gym, playing video games, and getting outside as much as possible!” He loves dogs and describes his 11 year-old dog River as his best friend. On and off the field, Foray brings a positive attitude wherever he goes.

Everyone is invited to see the hard work that both the directors and the students have put in as the Band of Pirates performs their show, Opus 60, throughout the month of October. For more information and a calendar of band events, visit
