Our third, fourth and fifth graders are gearing up for March Madness with the Union County Public Schools second annual “Books and Brackets.” All 30 elementary schools in the district are participating in a reading challenge February 15- March 23. Each week, for five weeks, students will record the number of minutes read while at school and at home. The minutes will be tallied each Thursday afternoon. Beginning March 2, the school system will announce the top reading schools each Friday and show how schools are moving through the bracket to the winning spot. A pep rally led by third grade teacher, Kelsey Kukor, was held on Thursday, February 15 to explain the rules and get everyone excited about reading!
All third graders from the top eight schools with the highest average minutes read per student will be honored at Wingate University on March 23, and the winning school will receive new books! The Final Four fourth graders from their schools will earn a class celebration at their home school! The Top fifth grade class wins a class party!
The top reader in each class each week get to pick a prize from the SWAG room and the top class at Prospect wins the GOLDEN TROPHY for the week AND a round of basketball knockout during gym time against their teachers!
Parents, please make sure your student reads each night and returns the colored reading log every day to school so the important reading minutes can be counted! We can’t wait to see how many minutes our students will READ!!
