Marching on: Final Four schools named in Books and Brackets Reading Challenge
The minutes are in and the Final Four have been selected!
Four UCPS elementary schools are now advancing to the Final Four round of this year’s Books and Brackets reading challenge. The challenge is modeled after the March Madness basketball competition, and all 30 of the school district’s elementary schools compete in the five-week reading challenge.
Students have eagerly picked up those books and turned those pages to build good reading habits while having fun. At Stallings, desks became islands of imagination, with students perched on the edge of their seats, captivated by the tales unfolding in their hands. Some traced their fingers along the lines of text, lips moving silently as they absorbed every word. Others leaned in closer, lost in the intricate illustrations that brought the stories to life. Their dedication has led them to be among the final four schools remaining in the competition.
Congratulations to the following schools who advanced to the Final Four: Poplin, Sandy Ridge, Stallings and Weddington. They have collectively read 1,198,299 minutes. The winning school will be announced during a celebration at Wingate University on March 22.
