Students worked and completed a PBL on the Three Regions of North Carolina. They researched, analyzed and created a map of North Carolina. They practiced mapping skills including a key, compass, surrounding states, symbols, and an important 3D component. For each region, they designed and constructed 3D pieces to illustrate the differences in elevation from each region. With paper, they created mountains for the Mountain Region, hills for the Piedmont Region, and sand/sand dunes for the Coastal Plains Region. Students then used their class research to write about each region including facts, differences in elevation, and other interesting facts. It was an opportunity for students to show their creativity and understanding in a 3D, visual way.
