Simple machines are all around the Inquiry Lab this semester. First graders are learning about the forms and functions of levers, as well as designing and building first, second, and even third class levers. Useful junk materials are incorporated into exciting museum exhibits to display in classrooms. After viewing mobiles by the sculptor Alexander Calder they are building one of a kind, multilevel mobiles by balancing levers and finding equilibrium.
Second graders were elated to receive mini reports from their fifth grade friends all about the six simple machines. It’s trial and error for them as they create their own simple machines in the Lab with Mrs. Z. We are looking forward to their pulleys and inclined planes for car races on the indoor track. Stop by to see the excitement!
