#UCPSBooksandBrackets: Sixteen schools advance to the next round of the Books and Brackets reading challenge

This is a Books and Brackets Picture of Stallings Elementary students The minutes are in! Sixteen UCPS elementary schools are now advancing to the Sweet 16 round of this year’s Books and Brackets reading challenge.

During Books and Brackets, which is patterned after the March Madness basketball competition, all 30 of the school district’s elementary schools compete in a five-week reading challenge.

Since the reading challenge’s official kickoff on Feb. 26, UCPS third, fourth and fifth graders read a total of 8,432,549 minutes.

Congratulations to the following schools who have advanced to the Sweet 16: Marshville, Kensington, Shiloh, New Salem, Wesley Chapel, Unionville, Stallings, Sandy Ridge, Antioch, New Town, Hemby Bridge, Rocky River, Rea View, Prospect, Indian Trail and Wingate.

The Elite Eight will be named on March 22 and the Final Four will be announced on March 29. The winning school will be unveiled during a celebration at Wingate University on April 5.
