UCPS rolls out buses to help students access Wi-Fi during remote learning
Union County Public Schools recognizes that some students have challenges with unreliable Wi-Fi during remote learning. As part of ongoing efforts to make sure students are able to work in a remote environment, UCPS is parking 15 buses in the following Monroe neighborhoods. Students can access the buses Monday – Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Riverside Community
- Suburban Estates
- Creekridge
- Icemorlee Apartments
- Sandy Ridge Baptist Church
- Willow Oaks Community
- Grace Gardens Apartments
- Mill Tree Apartments
- Manor Ridge Apartments
- Union Staton Apartments
- Flagstone Apartments
- West Ridge Apartments (Boyte St.)
The Wi-Fi enabled buses create community hotspots where a maximum of 50 students can connect at one time. Students with UCPS-issued Chromebooks have to be within a 40-yard radius to secure a valid signal.
UCPS purchased the equipment to enable the buses with internet access during the 2020-2021 school year.
