South Providence senior receives John H. Crowder service award

The late John H. Crowder spent more than 30 years serving the children of Union County.

As a living tribute to him and his legacy, the Union County Board of Education awards the John H. Crowder Service Award every month to an outstanding high school student who is making a difference in their school and community.

Students who receive this award are not only academically successful, but also have an established historNoah Hodges - Crowder award y of community service.

At its November 5 meeting, the Board of Education recognized a senior from South Providence School who received the monthly award.

Many people agree that Noah Hodges has a heart for service. As a dedicated member of his church’s youth group and other community organizations, Noah has participated in numerous student events and mission trips.

One that stands out is a trip to Warsaw, NC, where Noah worked with the Eastern Baptist Association to build and remodel homes that were impacted by floods. He also built a ramp for a family who needed wheelchair access to their home.

Noah has also volunteered with the United Way and Operation Christmas Child for many years.

In addition, Noah uses his love for music and song-writing skills to spread joy to his family and friends.

Noah is a good student who is very excited about being a senior in the Class of 2021. After graduation, Noah plans to enter the workforce.

Due to social distancing guidelines, the winner was not present during the meeting.
