Cuthbertson Middle student Ivan Cheah wins 2020 holiday card contest

Union County Public Schools is proud to announce that Ivan Cheah, a seventh-grade student at Cuthbertson Middle, is this year’s winner of the holiday card contest.

In October, nearly 235 students from all grade levels submitted original, festive artwork to the competition. After careful consideration by a panel of judges, the top 10 finalists were announced the first week in November.

Following a UCPS tradition, staff organized a celebration to honor the 10 student artists. A virtual program was held Friday, Nov. 20 via Zoom. Nearly 40 attendees, including parents, principals, teachers, Board of Education members and senior leaders, logged on to cheer on our finalists.

During the celebration, students had the opportunity to describe their artwork and explain the inspiration behind their card.

Superintendent Dr. Andrew Houlihan announced Ivan’s winter and holiday-themed card as the winner. The card will serve as the official UCPS Holiday Card and will include his name, grade and school on the back cover.

“Thank you for the contest,” Ivan said. “It gave me something to do in my spare time and I didn’t think I was going to win.”

Through a partnership with LifeTouch, parents, staff and community members can purchase Ivan’s card and share it with family and friends.

Follow this link to Living Tree to purchase 15 cards for a minimum donation of $10.

All proceeds will benefit the art program at Cuthbertson Middle School. UCPS also extends a special thanks to LifeTouch for printing and shipping the holiday cards at no cost to the district.
