February Crowder Award is presented to Weddington High student
The Board of Education continues to honor students who are making a difference in their school and community with the John H. Crowder Service Award. At the Feb. 2 meeting, the Board recognized a Weddington High School junior who works continuously to serve her school and community.
Arshia Pal revamped the Weddington High School chapter of the Key Club. Working diligently during an international pandemic, Arshia grew the membership of this service-oriented student organization to over 70 members in just one semester.
Under Arshia’s leadership, the Key Club members organized a coat drive for the local community, contributed to the March of Dimes, hosted a teacher’s luncheon, organized a winter teacher’s gift, facilitated a school supply drive, and hosted a virtual training on how to make dog toys to donate to local pet shelters.
Arshia’s extensive community service efforts truly highlights how she works to make a difference at Weddington High School and in the community as a whole. She works tirelessly to bridge the two by providing an outlet for students to give back through community service while growing efforts at Weddington High School during a time when so many are struggling.
Arshia’s positive energy is a beacon of hope for students and staff at Weddington High School, she is the epitome of what this award stands for.
