November Crowder Award is presented to Piedmont High student
The Board of Education continues to honor students who are making a difference in their school and community with the John H. Crowder Service Award. At the Nov. 4 meeting, a Piedmont High School senior, who is a shining example of dedicated leadership and volunteerism was honored.
Landri Bigham is an excellent student and a wonderful role model for others. She is ranked at the top of her class at Piedmont High School. Landri is a member of both the National Honor Society and the Beta Club, in which membership is determined by GPA and commitment to community service.
Through these two clubs, she has been able to give her time to an organization called Heart for Monroe and Common Heart Food Pantry. At Heart for Monroe, a nonprofit organization that exists to address homelessness and build relationships in our community Landri helps with the closet ministry. She spends her time there sorting clothes, assisting shoppers, and managing the check-out area.
Landri is also an integral part of the Piedmont High School family through her involvement in activities on campus and through sports. These activities showcase her true zeal for wanting to help those around her. She is also a part of student government, where members are always trying to engage the student body and make decisions that affect all students.
Last year when students were struggling with online learning, Landri stepped up and did peer-to-peer tutoring. She would spend her mornings before school, meeting with students to help them with their schoolwork. Also, through student government, she has served in two leadership positions, first as the treasurer, and this year she was elected by her peers as the chief operating officer. In this position, she works with Piedmont High School’s bookkeeper to order supplies and distribute them.
Landri has participated in homecoming events, Start with Hello Week, and the Sandy Hook Promise program which teaches empathy and empowers students to end social isolation. Those events along with writing inspirational quotes on the sidewalk and Smile Day, where students received a treat for finding smiles around campus and sent thankful thoughts to others were all organized by the student government.
Landri is well-liked by her fellow students for her enthusiasm for serving others, which can also be seen through her involvement with the tennis and swim teams. Landri represents many of the qualities that embody a Piedmont Panther.
