Abigail Boergert receives John H. Crowder Award
The John H. Crowder Award was presented to a senior at Piedmont High School during the Feb. 7 Board of Education meeting. Students who receive this award are academically successful and have an established history of community service.
Abigail Boergert has participated in a variety of activities and community service. She has been a member of the school’s Student Government since the 10th grade and was the Athletic Booster Club liaison her junior year. In those roles, she has decorated for school events, held community service drives, volunteered at open houses and organized homecoming and pep rallies and assisted with spirit weeks.
Over the years, Abigail has continually led by example through her participation in the school’s Unified Champions Schools Club, Break the Silence Club and SOAR. She has worked with special needs students at the school and at other high schools. She's also been involved in organizing Special Olympics events and holding school dances for Transition to Adult students. Abigail has done a lot to promote mental health awareness and makes students feel comfortable and supported, including being part of the program to sit with students who are alone in the lunchroom. Her service also included reading to elementary students during her sophomore and junior years.
Even with all her commitments, Abigail has found time to participate in the recycling program, be a peer tutor and be a member of the National Honor Society. Last year during the school’s Card Drive, she collected 120 thank you cards for healthcare workers and delivered them to a local hospital.
