UCPS students honored as U.S. Presidential Scholars at state level
Two Union County Public Schools students, Bryn Koprivica and Evan Keith, have been selected as state nominees by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to advance to the next stage of the prestigious U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. This honor celebrates their exceptional academic achievements, leadership and commitment to their communities.
Bryn Koprivica
A senior at Cuthbertson High School, Bryn Koprivica is celebrated for her resilience, passion and kindness. Ranked in the top 10 of her class of more than 500 students, Bryn approaches learning with curiosity and enthusiasm. She is the president of the National Honor Society and an active member of Mu Alpha Theta and Beta Club.
Beyond academics, Bryn has volunteered over 200 hours tutoring students and supporting local initiatives, while excelling on the cross-country and track teams. Her dedication to helping others fuels her efforts, like her work creating a volunteer program at a retirement home.
"I feel so honored," Bryn said about the recognition. "I’ve worked so hard to do as much as I can for my community. I hope this award brings attention to what I’m doing and inspires others to get involved."
Despite her busy schedule, Bryn balances her commitments with careful planning and focus.
"It’s about knowing your limits and when to step back to focus on what matters most," she explained. "Passion is key—you can’t stick with something for long if you don’t truly enjoy it. That’s what keeps me motivated in everything I do."
With her sights set on a medical career, Bryn exemplifies a compassionate and driven leader dedicated to making a difference.
Evan Keith
Evan Keith, a senior at Forest Hills High School, has earned recognition for his outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements. Ranked second in his class with a 4.5 GPA, Evan has balanced a rigorous schedule of honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and dual-enrollment courses, earning the title of AP Scholar. His dedication to academics is matched by his passion for leadership and service.
As the current student body treasurer, Evan has led efforts to raise over $7,000 for Victory Junction, a nonprofit camp for children with serious illnesses. He is also an active participant in the North Carolina Association of Student Councils, where he has attended and presented at district and state conventions.
"I make sure to plan my classes carefully each semester, balancing time for studying with flexibility to focus on extracurriculars," Evan explained. His thoughtful approach to time management has allowed him to thrive in both areas.
Evan’s commitment extends to multiple clubs, including the National Honor Society, Beta Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), where he holds a leadership role and helps organize schoolwide faith-based activities. He’s also a standout athlete on the men’s varsity tennis team, earning Most Valuable Player honors, a top singles rank, and All-Conference recognition. In addition, his contributions to the school’s Jacket Regiment Band include roles as drum captain and member of the All-County Band.
Evan continues to seek opportunities to grow as a leader. Recently, he was selected to represent North Carolina on the Union Power Cooperative D.C. Youth Tour, where he will advocate for current issues with legislators. Reflecting on his journey, Evan shared, "If I have free time, I find ways to use it productively—whether it’s finishing schoolwork early or building up extracurricular opportunities."
Congratulations to Bryn and Evan for their outstanding accomplishments and for advancing to the next stage of the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
