Building a legacy of security and support: Jarrod McCraw
After nearly 18 years of dedicated service, Jarrod McCraw, Assistant Superintendent for Student Support, will retire on July 1. McCraw joined the district as Safety and Security Director in December 2006 and was promoted in August 2018.
When asked about the most rewarding aspect of his role, McCraw emphasized the satisfaction of helping administrators, teachers, staff and students within Union County Public Schools. His background in law enforcement with the Highway Patrol proved invaluable in building strong relationships between the school district and outside agencies like law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, and emergency management. He considers these "second to none" partnerships a true blessing, ensuring all agencies have what they need to provide exceptional service.
McCraw acknowledged that his tenure wasn't without challenges, particularly the evolving landscape of social media and its impact on communication during safety and security issues. He stressed the importance of providing accurate information in a world where news travels instantly. He also highlighted the ever-changing environment of safety and security, noting that national and global tragedies directly influence local expectations for student and staff safety.
As he embarks on his next chapter, McCraw plans to take a few months off to enjoy time with his wife, children and family. Of his hopes for the district, he stated, “I just hope I leave UCPS better than I found it. We've laid a strong foundation, and I’m confident the people who remain will continue building on it and make it even better.”
