What do you teach and why did you become a teacher?

I teach business education (specifically accounting and marketing) at Porter Ridge High School. I was inspired to become a teacher because I had such good educators in UCPS growing up. I also got the opportunity to coach volleyball here (my alma mater and also where I played volleyball), so it was a perfect fit! 

How do you show your school spirit?

I won "most spirited" at PRHS when I was a student! I participate in all the dress-up days that the student council offers (even now as a teacher)! 

What or who inspires you?

Dr. Fisenne, our principal, inspires me. She is the best principal and boss I have ever worked for. It seems like she never sleeps! She cares for our students and staff, she is a leader in the community, and is never too busy to stop and say hello or listen to your needs. 

In which other teacher’s class would you like to enroll for a day? Why?

I would like to enroll in Coach Hertz’s yoga class because it is first block, and it would allow me to wake up and start my day with stretching and mindfulness. It is a unique opportunity to participate in yoga while at school.

What is one of your hidden talents?

I can say the pledge of allegiance in Spanish.

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

Life isn’t always going to go as planned, but it doesn’t have to be perfect to be great. Often, the journey is better than the destination. Be present and see what you can learn in the moment.

What is a professional motto or quote that you “work” by?

Trust the process.

What do you enjoy most about working in UCPS?

It is special to be able to work in the high school that I attended. I live close by in Union County, I get to coach a great group of volleyball athletes, and it is truly a special place to work because I feel supported by leadership at the school and the district level. 

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

To time travel! I would go back to some of my favorite moments in life so I can relive them twice.
