Stephanie Chinn (Walter Bickett Education Center)

What do you teach and why did you become a teacher?

I teach a separate setting pre-k class. Becoming a special education teacher has been my calling since I was in the sixth grade. I volunteered at a separate school for kids with disabilities with my Sunday school teacher and knew from that day on I would be a special education teacher when I grew up.

How do you show your school spirit?

I wear my WBEC t-shirts on Fridays. Yay Squirrels!

What or who inspires you?

My sister inspires me.

In which other teacher’s class would you like to enroll for a day? Why?

This question is hard because all of our teachers are fantastic! I would probably say Mrs. Tillman because she does so many creative projects with her class.

What is one of your hidden talents?

In my younger days, I performed on the triple trapeze and aerial silks in a circus arts program.

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

I want them to know they can do hard things.

What is a professional motto or quote that you “work” by?

When children are overwhelmed by big emotions, it’s our job to share our calm, not join their chaos.

What do you enjoy most about working in Union County Public Schools?

Seeing my students learn and grow.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Pause time for everyone but me!
