Daniela Ospina (Marshville Elementary)

What do you teach and why did you become a teacher?

I am a fifth grade DLI teacher. I became a teacher because I have always believed that education is the key to personal growth and societal progress. As a teacher, I have the privilege of helping students develop critical thinking skills, foster their curiosity and empower them to reach their full potential and make a positive impact in this society.

How do you show your school spirit?

I engage in various activities to promote a sense of school spirit among my students. One way I do this is by participating in our school's cultural celebrations, helping to showcase the rich diversity of our community.

Another way I show my enthusiasm for our school is by fully embracing spirit days. I dress up in accordance with the designated themes. By participating in these events, I aim to foster a deeper sense of community within our school.

What or who inspires you?

I have different things and people that inspire me every day. First, my family is a constant source of inspiration. Their unwavering support, love, and the way they overcome challenges with resilience motivate me to be the best version of myself.

Next, my students are a daily reminder of the potential for positive change. Witnessing their growth, curiosity and the spark of enthusiasm for learning inspires me to foster their development and help them achieve their goals.

Finally, the desire to leave a lasting, positive mark on the world drives me forward. Knowing that I can make a difference, no matter how small, through acts of kindness or education, is a powerful motivator. I'm inspired to leave this world a better place for future generations by doing good whenever and wherever I can.

In which other teacher’s class would you like to enroll for a day? Why?

If I had the opportunity to attend two classes, I would choose to be in Mrs. Corredor's kindergarten class and Mr. Bernal's class.

I've always admired teachers who work with young children and Mrs. Corredor's class in particular has caught my attention. Teaching young children, especially in a second language like Spanish, requires a special dedication and love. Mrs. Corredor embodies the qualities of a dedicated, affectionate and committed teacher. The prospect of participating in her classes filled with songs, rounds and interactive games is immensely appealing to me.

In addition to Mrs. Corredor's class, I would like to be part of Mr. Bernal's class. He is a teacher who excels at forging positive connections with his students, fostering an environment of trust. His sense of humor and profound love for science make his classes not only educational, but also enjoyable and engaging.

What is one of your hidden talents?

One of my hidden talents is my ability to cook special dishes from my home country of Colombia. It was a talent I didn't realize I had until I came to the United States and found myself far from my family, who had always been the ones that cook our traditional recipes.

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?

This world needs more acts of kindness and empathy. Lend a hand to others, be kind, show empathy and treat people with respect. These qualities not only make our students better individuals, but also contribute to a more compassionate and harmonious world.

What is a professional motto or quote that you “work” by?

"Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching."

What do you enjoy most about working in Union County Public Schools?

I enjoy the wonderful diversity of teachers and students within our schools. The different backgrounds, cultures and experiences enriches our educational environment. Additionally, I deeply admire the shared goal to consistently seek improvement and strive for excellence.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

If I could have a superpower, I'd choose the ability to fly. I love traveling, exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. Flying would let me go anywhere I want easily and observe our planet's beautiful landscapes from the sky. It would also mean I could visit my family back in Colombia whenever I want.
