Jaylen Harrison (Monroe High)

What are your most and least favorite subjects and why?

My favorite subject is biomedical because it’s fun and hands-on. It helps us learn more about the medical field and to investigate the human body system like the organs such as the heart, DNA and kinetics.

My least favorite subject is English because it’s a lot of reading. I don’t mind reading but I’d rather read a comic book than a novel. My favorite comic book series is The Flash. I’ve been watching The Flash TV series since I was little, too. There are nine seasons.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why?

I’d like to travel to Los Angeles because it looks like a beautiful city and I’d want to meet my favorite Tick Tocker, Lebron James, and other celebrities. I’d go to the Hollywood Walk of Fame to see the celebrity stars and visit restaurants, shops, vintage movie palaces and fun museums.

Maybe I’ll run into a comedian. I love comedy and some of my favorite comedians are Martin Lawrence, Jamie Foxx and Mike Epps.

What careers interest you?

I’d like to work in an emergency room or enlist in the army. In the medical field, there are a lot of options like nursing and medical assistant that could lead me to work in the ER. There are army medics, too. With the Army, I like that you protect people and the country.

When I was younger, I always liked helping people so I knew I wanted a career where I could do that. My interest in the field really started in middle school when I was attending the Health and Sciences Academy at Monroe Middle. That is when I discovered that I loved it.

What clubs or activities do you participate in? And why?

I was in the gaming club because I love video games. I’m also in HOSA - Future Health Professionals where we participate in several community service projects. Next year, I’d like to join the track team and maybe try tennis. I want to try some new things before I graduate.

If you had to choose between spaghetti or pizza, which would you choose?

This one is hard because I love pizza but I have it a lot so I’ll go with spaghetti. There is nothing like some good chicken alfredo. My mom’s is the best!

What three words best describe you?

  • Helpful - I care about people and like to help them see the bright spots. Mental health is very important. Something I do to help myself with stress is to edit videos. I enjoy using editing software and creating new things.
  • Kind
  • Supportive - I am there for people and check in on them to make sure they are okay.

What is your happiest school memory?

My happiest memory is when we visited Johnson and Wales University during my sophomore year. We went to see what college life could be like. The campus was really nice and central to a lot of things. It felt very comfortable and had an at-home field.

They talked to us about their health and wellness programs and other things their campus had to offer. I’d consider it as a possible university I’d want to go to.

What advice would you give your parents or teachers?

Never stop being yourself or let things get you down. Definitely never let negative people take your energy.
