Sevin Toro (Poplin Elementary)

What are your most and least favorite subjects and why?

My favorite subject is usually literacy, but right now it's science. We are studying rocks and minerals, so we get to do a lot of tests and feel the rocks. I like hands-on projects. We did a slate project where you take a piece of white and dark tile and rub a rock on it to see what color dust shows up. We are seeing science in action.

I’m a person who likes to read a lot. I’ve been reading since I was in preschool and have an eighth-grade reading level. I’m also on the Battle of the Books team at school. It comes easily to me and I can remember what I’ve read.

My least favorite is social studies because I don’t love history or memorizing states.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why?

I would travel to an Australian beach or London. I am getting one of those fulfilled because I’ll be going to London soon. I’ll be able to check it off my list. I want to go because I’m a big Potter Head. I love Harry Potter and we are going on a Harry Potter experience to see the set and some of the magic. I was in a Peter Pan play, so I’ll see Big Ben, which is exciting.

I don’t know why I picked Australia. I just think it’s a pretty place. Part of it is because I love Kaola Bears. They are so stinking cute. I love the beach and hear the warm water is crystal clear there.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

When I was in second grade, I loved animals, so I wanted to be a zoologist. That’s my second choice now; my first is acting. I also love singing, so I guess an entertainer. I wouldn’t be a magician or anything like that because that would be kind of tough. I’ve been in Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid and Annie where I used to live, and at a performing arts center here. I’ll be in Junie B. Jones the musical soon.

I have Central Academy of Technology and Arts on my list of high schools I want to go to. I’m not sure which middle school yet.

What do you do for fun?

I mostly read and play with friends. I act and practice my singing and dancing. I’m part of Girls on the Run at school. We train for a 5K at the end of the season, but we learn about other things, too, like what inspires us.

If you had to choose between spaghetti or pizza which would you choose?

It depends on the day. If I’ve had a lot of junk food that day, I’ll have spaghetti. If I’m tired and just want something quick, I’ll pull a pizza out of the freezer, heat it and eat it. I’m very picky so it has to be pepperoni. I don’t even like meat sauce on my spaghetti.

What three words best describe you?

  • Spunky
  • Playful
  • Thoughtful

What is your happiest school memory?

My happiest memory was when I was in third grade because it was the last time I’d be with those friends before I moved. We went to the fifth-grade graduation because it was during school hours. Then I went to the playground and went on the swings with my best friend. I was in AIG then and the kids from my class came out with our teacher. We all swung for about half an hour.

What advice would you give your parents or teachers?
