Amelia Martin (Marvin Ridge Middle)
What are your most and least favorite subjects and why?
My favorite subject is ELA (English language arts) because I love to read. Everything is in front of you and you can find the answers, so it makes sense to me. There are no formulas to remember. My least favorite subject is math, and I don’t plan to pursue a math-related career.
If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why?
I would go back to Positano, Italy. It’s my favorite place in the world. I love beaches and the perfect weather. I also enjoy the food there and they have interesting tourist sites. We like to go shopping around the city and one of the places we had dinner had a great view over the beach. I’ve only been to Positano once but visited Italy twice.
What careers interest you?
I love acting and singing, so I’d love to be in movies. I also like graphic design, so a magazine designer is something I’ve thought about, too. What sparked my interest in entertainment is that I’ve been singing since I could speak. When I was younger, I’d entertain people with puppets. My mom supported my interests by enrolling me in acting classes and dance lessons. I’ve been a competitive dancer for nine years.
What clubs or activities do you participate in? And why?
I was a part of the school’s dance team from sixth grade until now. I was captain and got to choreograph some of the dances. I love being a leader and working with the team. I’ve also participated in school plays since seventh grade. Last year, we performed Legally Blonde and I was Kiki. This year, we did Grease and I was ensemble. I also dance outside of school and play guitar. I used to play piano, but I love the guitar more, even though it can be painful on the fingers. Also, I have to keep the nails short.
What would you choose if you had to choose between spaghetti or pizza?
I love Italian food. I’ll have to say pizza. I love a good Margherita pizza.
What three words best describe you?
- Thoughtful - I like to understand people.
- Creative - I like art and sewing.
- Supportive - I’m there for my friends.
What is your happiest school memory?
I’d have to say last year was my happiest school memory because our drama class got to go to New York to see MJ The Musical. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. It was amazing because of the choreography, dance and lighting. It was so perfect. The first musical I saw off-Broadway was Matilda and the first one on Broadway was Moulin Rouge.
What advice would you give your parents or teachers?
For my parents, keep doing what you are doing. They are amazing they’ve helped me come so far. The same for my teachers except I’d add that I wish we’d get a little less homework. I appreciate them so much though. I can’t control my younger siblings so I don’t know how they control an entire class.
