Amauri Rivera (Porter Ridge Middle)

What are your most and least favorite subjects and why?

Math is my favorite subject. I’ve done well in math my entire academic career. What draws me to math is that I’m determined, so when I get a problem, I want to solve it.

Language arts is my least favorite subject. I struggle with it a bit. I’m not a strong reader and I don’t like to read. When I do read, I enjoy comic books.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be and why?

I would travel to Puerto Rico. I have family there and I used to go every summer. I always had the best time riding horses to the beach with my friends. I used to have a pet pig that acted like a dog. I’d play fetch with him.

I just love the people, the beaches and the food, especially the food. That’s the best part.

What careers interest you?

I want to be an NFL player. Right now, I play three sports: football, wrestling and track. I do wrestling and track to stay in shape for football season. I'd want to be a plumber if that didn't work out. I hear they make a lot of money. I like things where I can be hands-on and active.

What clubs or activities do you participate in? And why?

Although I am not a member of any clubs at school, I am a member of the sports teams I mentioned earlier. I love athletics because I’m the type of person who can’t sit still; I have to be doing something. I’m very active.

If you had to choose between spaghetti or pizza, which would you choose?

If it’s any kind of pasta then it would be chicken alfredo, but it has to be the one my mother makes.

What three words best describe you?

  • Confident - I don’t worry about what others think about me. I am always myself.
  • Reliable - I always do my work in class.
  • Determined - If I start something, I have to finish it.

What is your happiest school memory?

My happiest school memory is this year. I had a football game on my birthday and we won 36-0. There was food after, too. It was the best time. I made the straight-A honor roll. I couldn’t believe it and it felt great. I’m a thrower on the track team and made first in the county for discus for throwing it 26 feet. I’m second in the state, qualifying me to compete in the state competition.

What advice would you give your parents or teachers?

My advice for my parents would be to let me go outside more. For my mom, I’m either inside playing video games too much or I’m always outside. For my teachers, don’t give up on me because once you get to know me, I’ll be the best student you’ll ever have.
