Barima Ahyiah (New Town Elementary)

What is your favorite subject in school and why?

My favorite subject is writing because I love writing poems and my own stories. I like to write fiction or anything that comes to mind. It’s a way that I can express myself. I might want to be an author someday.

What's the coolest thing you've ever done in a school project or lesson?

In fourth grade, we did a project where we wrote about our characteristics and what we believe in so others could vote for us as president. It was really fun and creative! I said I was kind, funny and really liked dogs.

If you could learn any skill instantly, what would it be?

If I could learn any skill instantly, it would be to either know math or speak a different language.

Would you rather be able to talk to animals or be able to speak and understand any language in the world?

I would rather be able to talk to animals because I’m an animal person. I’d ask how they feel when humans do certain things and maybe their favorite color—just have a genuine conversation with them.

What's something you're really passionate about outside of school?

Outside of school, I’m really passionate about animation. In third grade, I assembled a team, and we made an animated movie. It was five parts long, and everyone loved it. We used Canva to animate it. The characters were pre-made, but we added things like hats and made a storyline.

What three words best describe you?

  • Kind
  • Creative
  • Joyful

What is your happiest school memory?

One of my happiest school memories was making the animation I talked about earlier. I saw a YouTube video of someone doing a skit and decided to animate it. It was amazing. We got to play around, mix stuff and do a lot of fun things. I also learned new things about what you can do with Canva.

If you could pick any three people to hang out with for a day, who would it be and why?

My mom, my sister and my dad. My mom is really funny, my dad is chill and nice to be around and my sister is also funny.
