Adrielle Myers (Shiloh Valley Elementary)
What is your favorite subject in school and why?
Math is my favorite subject because I'm really good at it, and I enjoy learning new things. I love solving problems, working with equations, and practicing addition—it's all really fun for me!
What's the coolest thing you've ever done in a school project or lesson?
In fifth grade, we did a STEAM ((science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) project where we built moving hands using paper and straws. We started by tracing and cutting out our hand shapes from paper. Since we were learning about bones and the body system, we placed straws where the bones and joints would be. Then, we threaded string through the straws and secured everything with tape. When we pulled the strings, the fingers moved, making it look like a real hand in motion.
If you could learn any skill instantly, what would it be?
It would learn how to paint. I love drawing because it lets me be creative. With painting, there are no strict rules—you can do whatever you want, unless you're learning a specific technique. I really like abstract art, so I want to try painting instead of just drawing. Sometimes I draw random things. I especially enjoy drawing people, whether I’m imagining them or not. I also draw fruits, places and other random things when I’m bored.
Would you rather be able to talk to animals or be able to speak and understand any language in the world?
I’d rather talk to animals because I have dogs, and I’d love to understand them better—like knowing what they need. I think talking to animals in general would be fun, even a bird. If I could talk to them, I’d learn what they really mean or how they’re feeling.
What's something you're really passionate about outside of school?
I’m passionate about crocheting. My friend taught me how to crochet when I was in third or fourth grade, and I've been crocheting ever since. In fifth grade, I had another friend who crocheted, but she moved away. We used to have a crochet club and would crochet together after school, making little plushies. Now, when I get home, the first thing I usually do is crochet.
I’ve made a small quilt and even a little blanket once, but I ran out of yarn before I could finish it. I love crocheting because it’s calming and creative. It’s peaceful, and you can do as much or as little as you want. You can follow patterns or make up your own techniques.

What is your happiest school memory?
My happiest school memory I would probably say was the first day of school in fifth grade. That’s when I met my new friends and saw my old friends again. We had recess really early that day. There are about nine or 10 girls in our class and we all became friends right away. Everyone was talking and we all got along really well.
If you could pick any three people to hang out with for a day, who would it be and why?
I’d say my best friend Harper because she moved to Maine, and we don’t get to see her much. Then I’d say my mom and Beyoncé. If I spent the day with Beyoncé, I’d go anywhere with her. I feel like she’s the type of person who’s generous and would let you do whatever makes you happy.
