Rosalee Buchanan (Unionville Elementary)
What is your favorite subject in school and why?
My favorite subject in school is math because it is easy for me to do and there are lots of fun activities. I like doing partner work. One of the things we do is roll dice to pick a problem and whatever number we get, we look at that row and choose a problem from it.
What's the coolest thing you've ever done in a school project or lesson?
In third grade, on Rome Day, I made a clay circle and decorated it with beads to create a little piece of architecture. It ended up looking like a colorful spiral. My favorite part of learning about Rome was getting to wear a Roman helmet for the day, but only in class.
If you could learn any skill instantly, what would it be?
I would learn how to be a better reader out loud because I stutter.
Would you rather be able to talk to animals or be able to speak and understand any language in the world?
I’d rather talk to animals so I can understand if I'm annoying them or if they want me to keep doing what I'm doing. I have four birds, one cat, one dog, two guinea pigs, one snake... and I think that's it! When I grow up, I'd like to be a parrot handler.
What's something you're really passionate about outside of school?
I’m passionate about playing with my animals because it helps me learn patience. I also love rollerblading because it helps me practice my dodging skills. I've been rollerblading for about three years, and my favorite part is when something is tricky to get around and I get it.
I’ve made a small quilt and even a little blanket once, but I ran out of yarn before I could finish it. I love crocheting because it’s calming and creative. It’s peaceful, and you can do as much or as little as you want. You can follow patterns or make up your own techniques.
What three words best describe you?
- Kind
- Sharing
- Smart
What is your happiest school memory?
My happiest school memory is from first grade when my teacher told me I was smart enough to be in third grade.
If you could pick any three people to hang out with for a day, who would it be and why?
The three people I want to hang out with for a day are my mom, my dad and my brother because they all help me with something in my life. I would spend time at a creek with them, splashing in the water.
