Alphabet Soup Factory

Alphabet Soup Factory

Kindergartners are preparing for a “souper” year at Sardis!  Students were recently introduced to the idea of project-based learning by working together in an “Alphabet Soup Factory.”  In reality, students explored important literacy concepts through hands-on activities and role play as chefs.  Students also acted as kitchen crew, quality control managers, and marketing executives.  Throughout the unit, these career-focused kindergarteners will experience a new letter each day.  By the end of the first three weeks, the entire alphabet will have gone through production.  Teachers have planned a culmination of the unit with an actual soup tasting experience for the students.  Activities such as this one are in line with the Sardis' vision for project-based learning.  Problem-based learning exposes students to activities focusing on curriculum standards and real life experiences.
