Metacognition and Reading in Second Grade

Second graders are voracious readers!  Just think about it...that's exactly what we do when we use metacognition.  The term metacognitive can be defined simply as "thinking about thinking;" however, there is much more to it than that when it comes to learning how to become a strong reader.  Second graders have come to understand how thinking and reading go together.  They are purposefully developing their reading abilities through carefully delving in to make connections and analyze texts as they readl.  Lessons and strategies are taught to enable students to engage with text in order to complete their cycle of understanding.
