South Providence was one of 18 Union County Public Schools that earned state recognition for their Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) implementation. The school earned Green Ribbon status for the second year in a row.
The PBIS framework at South Providence School means that all students are taught what it means to demonstrate Respect, Integrity, Safety and Excellence in all areas of the school and beyond. Students who show these character traits can earn positive reinforcement in the form of "Phoenix Feedbacks" that they can later spend at the student reward center. All staff work hard to teach and reinforce these behavior expectations, as well as provide interventions for students who need extra support.
State recognition is given to schools that have attended PBIS training, have an in-school coach, meet regularly and scored at least 70% on their PBIS implementation efforts. The South Providence team went from a score of 73% during the 2016-17 school year up to 93% during the 2017-18 school year. The South Providence team is aiming to both earn Model status for the 2018-19 school year and continue to increase behavior outcomes for all of our students!
