Beta Club Completes Adopt-A-Highway Litter Cleanup
Members of the Sun Valley High School Beta Club completed an Adopt-A-Highway litter cleanup on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 along a two mile stretch of Old Charlotte Highway in Indian Trail and in Monroe. This Adopt A Highway location is dedicated to honor the memory of Wesley Chapel resident and Senior Beta Emeritus Member Emily Brooke Parker. The Emily Brooke Parker Foundation was established in 2015 and funds an annual scholarship in Emily’s honor for students in numerous UCPS high schools, including Sun Valley High School.
The North Carolina Adopt-A-Highway Program was established in 1988 by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) in response to growing public concern regarding litter along the state's highways. The AAH Program is administered by the NCDOT Office of Beautification, and is a joint effort between community volunteers and the NCDOT. Its purpose is to decrease the amount of litter on North Carolina's roadsides and improve the beauty and quality of the environment.
