Aerospace 2 Flies to Charlotte Douglas Airport

The Honors Aerospace 2 students visited the Carolina Aviation Museum with the assistance and guidance of Laura Kozelka (Programs Specialist). The students participated in a Scavenger Hunt while viewing the history of planes and the US Airways flight 1549. Students reviewed engine testing, plane aerodynamics, and learned that a Boeing 747 main landing gear weighs 13,200 pounds!

The students then traveled to the sky park to observe some of the over 600 flight planes landing and taking off at Charlotte Douglas Airport.

The students finished up at American Airlines Flight Operations. Students reviewed the history of American Airlines and reviewed pilot training procedures to become a pilot. The students were impressed when they acutally were in the flight simulators that pilots like Sully actually used in training. This particular training site hosts mechanical engineers, flight attendants, customer service, and pilots.
