Beta Club Helps Samaritan's Feet Distribute Socks and Shoes
On Saturday, December 7th, 2019, the Sun Valley High School Beta Club helped distribute new shoes and socks to hundreds of needy children and their families in Charlotte, NC as part of Samaritan’s Feet International’s Shoes of Hope Distribution.
Samaritan’s Feet is a 501 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that "shares a message of hope and love through washing the feet of impoverished children around the world and adorning them with new shoes.” Founded by Emmanuel "Manny" and Tracie Ohonme in 2003, Samaritan's Feet has distributed over 6.5 million pairs of shoes in 75 different countries since its inception. Samaritan’s Feet provides shoes to many needy people all around the United States and the world.
Approximately 1.5 billion people around the world are without shoes on a daily basis. This can cause people to develop many types of preventable foot-borne diseases. People without shoes face dangers such as laceration, fungus, and insect bites that can lead to infection, disease, and even death. Samaritan’s Feet has four objectives: To provide new athletic shoes and socks for needy individuals. To partner with local schools, corporations, non-profits, and faith-based organizations, utilizing the power of collaboration to transform communities through service. To encourage both students and volunteers with the life-changing message of hope and respect for all people. To prevent the spread of diseases by protecting feet from infections and contaminated soil.
One of Samaritan’s Feet’s main programs is Shoes of Hope. Shoes of Hope is the overarching shoe distribution initiative both in the United States and around the world. It is designed to bring a life-changing message of hope, love, and compassion to everyone it serves. Samaritan’s Feet not only meets children’s physical needs with a pair of shoes and socks but spends quality time with them asking about their dreams and their lives.
