Beta Club Helps Process Shoes for Samaritan's Feet

On Saturday, February 22, 2020, the Sun Valley High School Beta Club processed hundreds of children’s shoes for Samaritan’s Feet in Charlotte, NC. Samaritan’s Feet is a 501 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that "shares a message of hope and love through washing the feet of impoverished children around the world and adorning them with new shoes.” Founded by Emmanuel "Manny" and Tracie Ohonme in 2003, Samaritan's Feet has distributed over 6.5 million pairs of shoes in 75 different countries since its inception. Samaritan’s Feet provides shoes to many needy people all around the United States and the world.

Approximately 1.5 billion people around the world are without shoes on a daily basis. This can cause people to develop many types of preventable foot-borne diseases. People without shoes face dangers such as laceration, fungus, and insect bites that can lead to infection, disease, and even death. Samaritan’s Feet believes that a new pair of shoes and the act of foot-washing can provide a tangible foundation of hope and the opportunity for a better life, prompt children to focus in school and families not to worry, and protect feet and decrease the possibility of getting a foot-borne disease.

This year’s National Day of Service celebrating the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday was a national shoe distribution day in the United States. One of Samaritan’s Feet’s main programs is Shoes of Hope. Shoes of Hope is the overarching shoe distribution initiative both in the United States and around the world. It is designed to bring a life-changing message of hope, love, and compassion to everyone it serves. Samaritan’s Feet not only meets children’s physical needs with a pair of shoes and socks, but spends quality time with them asking about their dreams and their lives. Another one if its programs is Back to School.  Back to School is conducted in up to 100 cities around the nation. These events provide a framework for community collaboration in preparing students materially, physically, and spiritually for the new school year.
