Need a Summer Reading Book?

Rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are asked to read one of the books on the Summer Reading list.  Students who will be in English 1 (8th graders) will instead read Animal Farm by George Orwell. Students who are interested in getting a copy of one of the books may pick it up on Mondays from 10:00-12:00 from SVMS. Please fill out this form using your UCPS Google Drive account by Sunday evening and the book will be ready for you on Monday. Books will be in a plastic bag.

In addition, many of the titles can be found in e-book format on our Destiny platform. Students will just need to log in to Destiny to check it out. If you need help logging in to Destiny, please email maureen.donohue@ucps.k12.nc.us. Also, the Union County Public Library also has many of the titles in e-book format, along with physical copies. UCPS students can access electronic resources through their startup page and logging in by using their student ID number and their PIN is their year of birth.

The Summer Reading list has a short description of each of the books, its genre, the number of pages in the book, and the reading level. The title of each of the books is a link to a preview of the book, usually part of the first chapter.

Students will be working on a project to demonstrate comprehension of that book during the first few weeks of school.

If you have any questions, please contact maureen.donohue@ucps.k12.nc.us.
