Summer time is the best time to read. When the weather is too hot to go outside and play, curl up with a good book. There is no better activity for children than to engage in reading for enjoyment. Not only will your child discover the joy of being lost in a book, he/she will practice the many skills and strategies he/she has learned all year. We are suggesting that your child read every day for at least twenty minutes. Also, remember that all children benefit being read to and sharing the stories with you. It is a great way to spend time with your family while creating a love of learning.
We are sending home a summer activity card for students to complete over the summer. These activities are ways to keep your children reading and learning during summer break while having lots of fun. There is a Summer Reading List link posted on the school webpage. Please, remember to return the completed activity card signed by parents at the beginning of the 2019 – 2020 school year.
Also, the Union County Public Library in Monroe and Marshville offers a summer reading program for children of all ages. This year the Union County Public Library summer reading program theme is, “A Universe of Stories!” Sign-ups begin June 1st (see flyer below).
So, remember summer reading is meant to be an enjoyable time. Have an enjoyable time reading and relaxing with lots of good books!
