On April 12 and 13, Unionville’s select singing chorus, Broadway Bob, performed the musical “Annie, Junior”. There were four performances total. All Unionville students had the opportunity to enjoy the show either Thursday or Friday, and two performances were in the evening for parents and the community. The musical was directed by the school’s music teacher, Mr. Matthew Noonan. He and Broadway Bob were awarded an “Arts in the Schools” grant by the Union County Community Arts Council which helped to fund the production. What started out as just an idea that Mr. Noonan had to motivate and challenge students turned into a wildly successful musical production. With the assistance of several Broadway Bob parents, all four performances went very smoothly. Annie was played by Taylor Simpson, and Mr. Warbucks was played by Brooks Robinson. All 41 members of Broadway Bob had a role with fifth graders taking the lead roles. Based on the success of this year, plans are already underway for the spring musical in 2019.
