The first graders enjoyed learning about Malawi, Africa from Cathy Black, a former first grade teacher at Unionville. This tied in with our studies from Heifer International. Students learned different ways of life of the children. They learned that the mothers wore a wrap around their body that held their infant child while they worked in the field and around their hut. Children went to school during the day and they started school in first grade. Students were able to see a slide show and many artifacts from Malawi. These artifacts will be stored in the first grade classrooms and passed around to the different homerooms to be seen up close.
