Girl Scout Troop 3180 purchases a Hydration Station for our school

Brownie Girl Scout Troop 3180 set two goals: to help students at Weddington Elementary School stay hydrated and to reduce the amount of plastic water bottle usage. During the spring of 2021, they learned how important this natural resource is by earning their Wonders of Water Journey badge led by Cadette Girl Scout Penelope Rauscher.

Girl Scouts is about empowering girls to be Go-Getters, Innovators, Risk Takers, and Leaders and these girls LOVE helping others. Troop 3180 teamed up with the 5th grade class of 2019 and using proceeds from their 2020 cookie sales, helped to purchase a water cooler and water bottle hydration station. They also set out to advocate and educate their peers about reducing plastic waste and encouraging the use of the water bottle refill station. They made posters to hang at school and spoke on the morning announcements. They also made bracelets and bookmarks out of plastic shopping bags to share with their classmates and to encourage them to reduce and reuse when possible. One of our girls came up with the slogan: Reduce Plastic Waste and Make the World a Better Place!
