After 6 successful years, the Weddington High School MCJROTC program begins a new chapter in its history this school year with the addition of a new Marine Instructor First Sergeant Randy Barlow. First Sergeant Barlow recently retired from the Marine Corps after 22 years of service and brings a wealth of leadership and teaching experience with him to Weddington High School.
The Weddington JROTC program focuses on teaching students the importance of personal responsibility/accountability and other life skills that are readily transferable to life after high school. The curriculum includes focus on areas such as job interview skills, time management, stress management, ethical decision making, leadership traits/principals and motivational techniques.
For the 2019-2020 school year, the program will be led by Senior Cadets Nataly Rojo-Espitia, Ann Sloyan and Jose Colmenares-Diaz. During the first 6 years of its existence, the program’s Drill Team, Color Guard, Athletic Team and Academic Team have won numerous local and area competitions and the program has been recognized as a Naval Honor School. Additionally, over the course of the last 3 years, 9 Weddington High School MCJROTC cadets have received college ROTC scholarships.
