Dr. Johnson shared tips with students on how to get and stay excited about their writing, and ways to make what they write even better. The students were actively engaged, and some grade levels even shared with her illustration suggestions for upcoming new books she may publish.
The day ended with an evening of recognizing all students as authors and artists. Each student shared with parents a self-written and published book on a topic of choice. A gold star was added to the book during the ceremony to make the activity even more special for the students. Following this, students led parents to the cafeteria where original pieces of framed artwork were displayed for each student. Parents were able to purchase the artwork to add to their home collections.
The WCES PTO graciously sponsored the author visit, provided materials and handiwork for the book compilations, and also provided a nice pizza dinner free of charge to all in attendance at the evening event. It was certainly a day of celebration that will be remembered by all for many years to come!
