Mrs. Kluttz’s second grade students did an activity where students learned about what types of nutrients are in the foods we eat. First students drew their favorite food to eat. Then we read the book Good Enough to Eat by: Lizzy Rockwell. As we read, we wrote notes about different types of foods, what nutrients are in that specific food, and what the nutrient does to help our bodies. Then students drew, colored, and labeled three of these foods onto a piece of art paper. So we learned that even though we love to eat a particular food, we should incorporate other healthy foods in our diet because they help our bodies grow and heal.
Thank you to the Union County Farm Bureau (through their Agriculture in the Classroom initiative) for donating classroom Read Aloud books and a jade plant to incorporate more hands on learning our classroom. We will do an experiment with the jade plant next!
