5th Grade Visits Latta Plantation

Our class started out the school year studying the 1600’s and explored the roots of our nation by studying early colonization in the United States.  Now we are deeply immersed in the 1860’s as we discover all there is to know about the Civil War. We have studied the causes, conflict, and outcome of the war. We also stepped back in time and became soldiers through our visit to cotton plantation and living history farm, Latta Plantation.  We dressed as soldiers from the Union and Confederacy, held our own rifles (pretend, of course!), and had a battle in front of the the historic house! We are now in the process of bringing to life our own Civil War persona as we dress up as historical figures from the Civil War during our Living History Museum. Who knows where we will go next!
