BHESA new state of the art performing arts center opened with “Seussical Kids” Broadway production

Benton Heights Elementary School of the Arts family witnessed a historical moment in our 106-year history on December 12, 2018.  Our school welcomed special guest from our Central Office and many community leaders for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony followed by the first performance in our new Performing Arts Center.  Our new state of the art facility opened to packed houses who enjoyed “Seussical Kids” Broadway production Dec. 12 -14thOur new state of the art facility opened to packed houses who enjoyed “Seussical Kids” Broadway production. We were thrilled as over 1,500 attended during the three days and that we had the chance to welcome Indian Trail, Prospect, and Rocky River and Western Union Elementary School students to our campus. Following the Friday evening performance, the school hosted a reception for over 300 and presented certificates and pictures to each cast member.

This was the 11th year BHESA has performed Broadway shows at the school. This year’s show included a cast of twenty-nine 3rd – 5th grade students who were cast from the 90 that auditioned. The students began rehearsing in September to bring this to our stage and did an outstanding job. The cast will be performing at the Knight Theater in Charlotte on March 28 and at the Second Annual School Leadership Day on April 5.

We are so grateful to their advisors, Mrs. Kivett, Ms. Mufuka and Mr. Jones and all of the faculty and staff for making this possible. BHESA thanks Blumenthal Performing Arts Center of Charlotte and the UCCAC for all their support to our arts programs.
