Message from Mr. Childers December 2, 2018

Hello Parents,

This is Tom Childers contacting you from Antioch Elementary. We have three weeks of school remaining until the Winter Break. The upcoming weeks will be very busy and we encourage your children to arrive at school on time if at all possible. We don't want them to miss out on the learning and the fun.

Last week one of Antioch's Teachers was highlighted on local TV. Mr. Josh Tegard, a third grade teacher was recognized by Fox 46 for a "Teacher Getting Results". You may click on this link to see the report. Congratulations to Mr. Tegard and all of our staff members for their dedication and commitment to our students.

On Monday, our third grade students will take the Cogat Test. All students will be released at 11:00 am on Tuesday. Please make transportation arrangements. Report Cards will go home and our Chorus will perform the Winter Concert on Thursday.

The Kiwanis Club of Monroe will begin their canned food drive on Monday, December 3rd. I realize that we recently completed Food for Families, however this is a worthy cause. Additionally, the Kiwanis Club of Monroe is proud supporter of Union County Public Schools. In lieu of sending in food items… I would ask each family to send in $2. I will ask our PTO to collect the donations and make a bulk purchase of canned goods for this charity. The canned food drive will end on Thursday, December 6th.

Upcoming Dates of Interest:

12/13 - Fifth Grade Kahoot Tournament

12/17 - Second Grade Holiday Party 10-11

12/21 - Fifth Grade Holiday Party 11:00 - 12:15

Please use this link to submit your child's reading for the November Principal's Reading Club. Students who complete the PRC criteria will be recognized along with the top performers for myON and IXL. This recognition will take place in early December.

The UC Neighborhood is committed to bringing you fun, engaging and educational events and services! We're a community with a proud heritage looking to a bright new future. Click here for the newsletter.

School Improvement Update: One of the goals of the PTO this year is to make improvements in and around the school to help keep our kids fit and healthy!  We are excited to announce the completion of several projects to support that goal!  First, we would like to thank Renoir Restoration for laying the new concrete pads on the playgrounds to provide an additional multi-use play space on both playgrounds. We also would like to thank Yes I Can Play Foundation for donating the new basketball hoops that were installed by the concrete.  New water bottle filling stations have also been installed throughout the school.  If you have ever watched an elementary-aged child drink from a water fountain, you know why we are excited!  In addition to being less "germy" and messy, the water from the filling station is also filtered to reduce lead and other harmful chemicals in the water.  The PTO is working with Mr. Childers and the staff to explore other playground improvement options, so stay tuned!

Yes I Can Play Foundation

Yes I Can Play Foundation donated two new basketball hoops that were installed next to the concrete in both the K-2 and 3-5 playgrounds.

New Concrete Pads

New concrete pads installed by Renoir Restoration on both playgrounds provide an additional multi-use play space great for chalk, 4 Square, and basketball!

New Water Filling Stations

In addition to being less "germy" and messy, the water from the filling station is also filtered to reduce lead and other harmful chemicals in the water.
