Safety Screenings

Good Morning,

This is Tom Childers contacting you from Antioch Elementary. I have heard from a few parents with concerns regarding our morning screening procedure. Each school is given some flexibility with regards to how to conduct the safety screening. Students and staff at Antioch are screened in a manner that complies with the safety protocols issued in Lighting Our Way Forward: North Carolina's Guidebook for Reopening Public Schools and also is sustainable for inclement weather. The screening process is more than just a temperature check. Students are also asked the a series of questions to determine their possible exposure. Every school must balance the need to accurately and efficiently perform this task. Temperature check and symptom screening will continue until further notice.  As our number of students on campus increases, the need for safe but efficient system will be critical. Any student who rides the bus or arrives in car rider line will be screened upon entering the building. Students who are symptomatic will be isolated in the observation room until a parent can pick them up.

I understand parent concerns very clearly. I am asking each of you to consider the many things that are asked of school employees at this time. We are doing everything within our power to not only provide instruction for face to face students and remote students but also keep everyone safe throughout the day.

Thank you for your continued support.

Have a great day.
