Message from Mr. Childers October 11, 2020


Hello Parents,


This is Tom Childers contacting you from Antioch Elementary.  We have many things happening at Antioch. I plan to communicate details regarding Plan "A" and Plan "D" in the near future. As you can imagine… we have many moving parts and I want to provide clear and timely communication. Some students will be changing teachers if their current teacher transitions into a virtual teaching role. Virtual Academy students (Plan "D") are anxious to learn who their teacher will be as well. It is my hope to communicate this information by Friday, October 16th. Our school will host 177 Virtual Students beginning October 26th. This new assignment of students will create a domino effective that will effectively give more than 250 students a new homeroom teacher. Thank you for your continued patience as we work to solve the problems that each day brings.


Students will have a remote learning day on October 22nd. Teachers will provide on-demand content for students on this day as teachers conduct virtual parent conferences. Friday, October 23rd is a teacher workday and students will NOT have work shared for this day.

Afternoon Dismissal Changes:

Antioch Elementary anticipants that the number of afternoon car riders will soon increase. Our staff has made changes in an effort to minimize your wait and keep everyone safe. If you are picking up a fourth or fifth grade student, please arrive after 2:10pm each day. Fourth and Fifth Grade students and their siblings will be picked up from the bus lot after 2:10pm daily. Parents will be directed to the bus lot after 2:10pm. Parents will be directed to park in the staff parking lot if they arrive before this time as traffic is not permitted in the bus lot until the buses have departed.


 Dismissal Changes - Effective Date: October 12, 2020

  • All 4th and 5th Grade students and their siblings who are car riders in the afternoon will be picked up from the Bus Lot.
  • Teachers of Kindergarten, First, Second and Third Grade students will ensure that younger siblings are placed with your fourth or fifth graders in the gym.
  • Parents must not arrive until 2:10pm. If you arrive before this time… you will be directed to park in the staff parking lot until buses have departed.
  • Please follow staff directions and have your child's or children's names visible for our staff.
  • All students whom are dismissed as walkers will now be waiting at the door near the K-2 playground. Parents should approach the door and ask for your child by name. The staff will send your child to you. Please maintain social distancing while waiting and remember to wear your masks.
  • Antioch Elementary would like to thank you in advance for your patience.


Bus Transportation: All parents of students who use UCPS bus transportation this year will be asked to complete a weekly Attestation Form. The form provides assurance that parents are NOT sending at risk student on the bus. Click here to access the electronic form.

Cafeteria:  Our cafeteria serves hot and healthy meals daily. Access the breakfast  or lunch menu. Download the Mobile Menu App for your smartphone which will provide  interactive lunch nutritional information and a link to the online payment provider. Our cafeteria also sells items such as Cool Ranch Doritos, Flamas Doritios, Cheetos, Cookies and Rice Crispy Treats. Students my purchase switch drinks and bottled water in addition to milk. Monday: Cheese Pizza or Pork Chopper and Caesar Salad, Sliced Peaches, Milk

Tuesday: Cheese Stix Dippers or Submarine Sandwich and Green Beans, Apple, Milk

Wednesday: Cheese Quesadilla w/Tortilla Chips or Corn Dog and Salsa Beans, Pineapple & Applesauce, Milk

Thursday: Chicken Nuggets or Baked Spaghetti and Caesar Salad, Blueberry Cup, Milk


Powerschool Information: Any parent who needs to obtain their child's powerschool information may email Mrs. Hansen (elisabeth.hansen@ucps.k12.nc.us) or Mrs. Perry (tricia.perry@ucps.k12.nc.us). I would encourage all parents of students in grades third, fourth and fifth to obtain this information. This will give you access to the parent portal and you can see your child's grades and missing assignments.

Yearbooks for Sale:  We have a limited number of last school year 2019 - 2020 Yearbooks available for purchase.  They are $30 for a soft cover.  If interested, please send a check in with your student made out Antioch Elementary School and Mrs. Perry will deliver it to your child’s teacher.  Complete this form to reserve your yearbook.


Clarification: This yearbook is for the past school year… NOT the current school year.

Birthday Treats will not be permitted at Antioch this year. Due to the many additional tasks required of our staff due to COVID-19, we cannot accept birthday treats of any kind in the classroom.

Personal Items: (Snacks, water bottles, lunches, homework:  Sometimes students forget items at home - parents are permitted to bring prescription eye wear, prescription medicine and other items deemed essential by the school. The school will not permit the drop off lunch and homework unless the child has a special diet and our cafeteria cannot accommodate the child's needs.  Parents will only be permitted to drop off clothing items if the child's clothing becomes soiled during the school day. All students should bring coats, jackets and face covering daily at the beginning of the day. These items will not be permitted to be dropped off during the day. The school will provide a face covering for your child if they forget their face covering at home. Students should bring a sweatshirt or light jacket to school. It may be very warm outside however the classrooms might be chilly with the reduced number of students in classrooms. I encourage parents to write your child's name in their jacket. Our school has dozens of unclaimed items of clothing each year.

New School Dismissal Manager!

*This app will our main system used for early dismissals, checking out, tardies, transportation changes, etc.*

School Dismissal Manager notifies the school of your updates so that it is no longer necessary for you to phone the school, send notes, or send an email to inform the school of dismissal changes. 

School Dismissal Manager will provide us with a more organized and efficient tracking system for afternoon dismissals.

Create an Account:

Go to schooldismissalmanager.com click on "Forgot Password" feature to set a new password and get into the system.  You will use your email as the username.  You need to create your account on a computer first and then you can load the App on your phone.

School Pictures will be taken during the Week of October 12th. I welcome remote and virtual students to come to school any day (Monday - Thursday) beginning at 11:30am. All face to face students will be finished with pictures at this time. Parents may arrive between 11:30am - 12:30pm. Parents may accompany their child into the Media Center for pictures. Students and parents must wear face coverings and go through COVID screening upon entering. Anyone who is symptomatic should not attend this activity. A picture makeup day will be held on Thursday, November 19th. Parents may also take a photo of their child and email it to tom.childers@ucps.k12.nc.us
